The mirror was first. It's been sitting around our garage for three years now, as it was too boring to bring inside. And my current rule-of-thumb is... if it's ornate and prissy, then it better be a funky color, or no deal.
Anyone can pick up a gold mirror just about anywhere. Where's the fun in that? Friend comes in, turns the corner and says, "Oh, nice! I have a gold mirror too. Mine is hanging over the couch, not the piano though. How creative that you hung it vertically. I'd never have thought of that!"
So... though my mirror still has the frilly-thing going on, at least it's owning up to it full-force-- a few dollops of Jamaica Blue ala Isaac and a smattering of chartreuse ala moi and now my studio walls aren't so naked anymore.

Wow, it looks great!

I love it. And your last photo of it is great!!!
I have the same thought with most of the picture frames we get. Anything can be painted.

I love this idea! I have a gilded frame I 'rescued' from the...er, roadside, that is hanging from a rafter in the garage...er, my studio. Now I know exactly what it needs! Thank you, again, for the inspiration! XO

Awesome! The color is just *perfect*.
Posted by: smileull | January 28, 2007 at 08:12 AM
Yes. I think the patina-ed look suits you (the you that we all know, anyway) much better than the stodgy gold. Hurrah for making old things new again.
Posted by: Sarah | January 28, 2007 at 08:32 AM
Wonderful color choice! Now I'll have to be looking for a paint-worthy mirror of my own.

From this moment on whenever I look at my gold-framed mirror it will be blah. and so not full-force...but my mother-in-law would crucify me if I painted "her" gold-framed mirror....funny how she calls all the items she's given me as gifts, "hers"....

I've never commented on you blog before (I think...), but I've been reading it for a while now. I feel it's about time I said hi :O) Love how this mirror turned out, lovely color!
Posted by: Guro | February 01, 2007 at 02:44 AM
Haha, I have a gold mirror too. It was my grandma's and I can't stand to get rid of it, and yet at the same time it's not something I would proudly display.... but you have given me an idea, and now a fun color would maybe just make it right for me after all. Thanks for sharing your ideas with all of us! Truly inspiring.
Posted by: Kristin R | February 01, 2007 at 11:13 PM
that frame is lovely! I need to add that to my to do list. The inspiration is fantastic on your blog!
Posted by: tasha | February 11, 2007 at 02:46 PM
I have an identical gold mirror to yours! And I've held onto it for 4 years, my hubby refused to let me put it up. I don't blame him really..it is a gold mirror.
I saw your post and showed my husband what you did with your mirror...and a few short hours later, I have a new mirror hanging on the wall!
Thanks for the inspo!

Please share that paint color/brand with me...my little girls room is calling out for some accents in that color....
