Hi! I'm Heather Bailey, a designer and a mother of two. Freshcut™, my debut collection of fabric for Free Spirit, is now available worldwide and my next collection is on its way. Coming this Spring/Summer 2008 is my first collection of paper craft & scrapbook supplies for Autumn Leaves. And I'm also developing a line of hip sewing patterns to knock your socks off (as well as some other amazing projects I can't talk about just yet). Phew! This, here, is my personal blog.
And a warm welcome to everyone stopping by from my story in the April/May '08 issue of Home Companion (fantastic magazine)! Links to the free paper craft patterns from the article can be found below. Fantastic!!! He really looks like he's using the force, the young Jedi master that he is!
Posted by: jona | November 02, 2007 at 09:02 PM
Awesome costume! He is so into it too, the force is strong with him. : )

I just love how much he's embracing his character. I've seen lots of photos of kids in similar poses, but they never seem to lose themselves in the character. Just awesome all the way around.

How have you done the background of the first photo? Have you used Photoshop?
Posted by: Yolanda from Spain | November 03, 2007 at 03:16 AM
Beautiful costume. I almost wish I celebrated Halloween, just so I could wish we were related and you'd make me a costume. :) He is such a natural in front of the camera.

What a great costume--my son would love it!
Posted by: Suzanne | November 03, 2007 at 05:43 AM
I also am wondering how you did that first photo. Were you above him and used the street as the background, too? It looks awesome!

Terrific! What a model you have there, as good as the original!

Great costume and fantastic pictures as usual. He looks totally serious. But I guess being a Jedi can be pretty serious stuff.

That is what I love about Halloween- when the kids become the costume. I love how seriously he takes it . I had a ninja this year with some pretty sweet moves.

wow - impressive! Did you make the boots somehow too??? I would NOT be surprised, but I'd love to hear how. . .

This is fascinating! Wonderful costumes and wonderful photos!

Fantastic Heather, good work! My boys would love that. Great meeting you at Market.

Your kids are also all gorgeous! It was great to get to know you at Market, Heather. Let's definitely stay in touch and get together when you come to NY! xo, L

Oh that's ADORABLE!
Posted by: Nin | November 03, 2007 at 03:57 PM
The background of that top photo is just asphalt! Perhaps it was the long-lense on the camera that allowed the street to appear to go all of the way up behind him. Hmmm. That's a question for Isaac.
The boots are a vinyl foot wrap that velcroes at the back of each leg. There's an elastic strap that goes under each shoe. I had Elijah wear his shoes when I made the pattern, so they fit a little better than they usually would, I guess. I can take some detail shots if you like!
Thanks for all of your feedback here. Elijah is eager to see what everyone thinks, so I'm extra loving you guys for saying such nice things him : ) !!!

Elijah is such a cutie in his Jedi costume!! Such a fantastic model as well! (:
Photos and costumes like these make me wish we celebrated Halloween over here.
Great job on the costume!!

Totally awesome. The force is obviously with the young Jedi.
Every year I hope that I can keep my daughter away from a store bought costume for one more year. So far so good.

Hey Elijah,
You look so stinkin tough in your Jedi costume. I showed Lily and she said, "Wasn't he a Jedi before." Can you believe she remembered that?? Anyway, we all agree (me, Lily, and Uncle Dave) that you look super cool and that we would not want to get in a fight with you
love you!!

Cool Jedi!
Sadly, my eldest son does not appreciate anything handmade (except cake!)... lucky you!

What a cutie patootie he is!!!! He could be a child model! Good job on the costume!
Posted by: Claudia | November 04, 2007 at 08:40 PM
Thats AWESOME!!!!!

I'm sure you hear this ALL the time, where do you find the time!! Your children must feel so loved. Your kids are adorable!
Posted by: Heather | November 05, 2007 at 07:20 AM
You have the luckiest kids in the world!
Posted by: megan | November 05, 2007 at 10:19 AM
I love the mermaid costume! I wish I know how to do a costume like that.
I've been following your blog for a while and I love your work. :)
Posted by: Paula | November 06, 2007 at 04:55 PM
:) My boys finally opted not to be Jedi this year. Not that they were terribly different though, I did have a Darth Vader this year. :) You do wonderful work, as always!
Posted by: denise | November 07, 2007 at 06:58 PM
Breathtakingly amazing costumes! That mermaid is sooo dreamy. I bet they think they have the best mom in the world! :o)

Heather.......your mermaid was stinkin' genius. I love the bobbing tail......genius, I say. And wow, what a handsome boy you have there........*very* authentic, Mr. Elijah. Was his tunic and cloak self-drafted or did you use a pattern?? I really like look of the tunic for real-life.
Posted by: Lisa | November 08, 2007 at 12:36 AM
I'm echoing Lisa's question here...my son just kept saying "he's so LUCKY! he looks like a REAL JEDI!"..that's when his mouth wasn't hanging open in undisguised amazement and envy! lol. Did you use a pattern or...?? It's amazing and my son would completely DIE if I could swing something in his size. Afterall, with him- it's NOT a phase. It's a LIFESTYLE! lol.
Thanks in advance for any input/details!
